5 (More) Ways You Can Make Money as Kids Fitness Instructor

Last May I shared 5 Ways You Can Make Money as a Kids Fitness Instructor in Spring/Summer.

Here is your Fall/Winter edition - since every season brings us new opportunities to keep kids active!

1. Offer Fitness Classes to Schools!
If you're mega passionate about working with schools and also want career-level income, then launching a school-based fitness business might be the perfect next step for you! Schools are always looking for ways to promote health and wellness among their students, and fitness classes delivered by external service providers are a great option.  Running your own school fitness business involves creating a curriculum-based fitness program that supports the Physical Education standards and expectations, marketing your business to schools, and building relationships with school administrators and teachers so that they understand how your program will help them reach their goals. School fitness businesses take a bit more time to get established (unless you buy a PL3Y Education territory ;) , but the potential for growth and profitability is significant!

2. Launch your Own Weekly Classes
Weekly kids fitness classes is where it’s at when it comes to building relationships with kids and progressing them through skills!  Plus, I love how the kids learn the routines and class culture week-over-week, which makes teaching these programs that much easier as the kids get to know you and the flow. Parents love predictability and repetitive schedules, so offering 8-12 week programs allows you to ‘sell’ once, and have confirmed revenue for multiple months at a time.

3. Get Hired by a Local Community Centre
Community centres often have a budget for fitness classes and are always on the lookout for qualified instructors like you. By getting hired by a community centre, you can reach a wider audience of kids and establish yourself as a reliable fitness leader in your local community. The perks of getting hired by a local community centre include access to their equipment, they do all the marketing and take all the registrations, they provide the insurance, and in many cases, they will also pay for your training, certification and program licensing fees if you teach a pre-packaged program (like one of our DANCEPL3Y or YOGAPL3Y programs)!

4. Organize Special Events (e.g. Halloween).
Kids and families love celebrating holidays! Special events organized in the community by a leader like you can not only provide families with a fun activity to do for the day, but you’re also building a reputation for yourself and allowing kids and families to see what you do in your regular weekly classes!

5. Plan Winter Break / March Break Camps
Similar to summer camps, March break and Winter Holiday camps are a great opportunity for fitness instructors to work with kids and teens. By offering fitness-themed camps during school breaks, you’re helping out parents who don’t have vacations planned during those times, and generating peaks of additional income!

There’s something out there for everyone! Remember you get to build the business and job that you want to have. What matters the most is that you find a place to share your passion and get more kids active in your community.
