PHYSICAL LITERACY IS A JOURNEY
Physical Literacy is a journey that each person goes on throughout their life. It is not something that you ‘achieve’ but rather the ability to experience, reflect, assess and take action on being active for life. Each person’s journey is as unique as they are.
PHYSICAL LITERACY IS FOUNDATIONAL
The ABCs are to reading/writing, as the 123s are to math, as the Do-Re-Mi are to music, as the…FMS (fundamental movement skills) are to movement and active living. Individuals who have skills such as running, hopping, jumping, throwing, etc have the foundations to choose a wide variety of physical activities.
PHYSICAL LITERACY LETS YOU CONNECT
Physical literacy isn’t just about your ability to move your body. The social domain of physical literacy addresses the importance of human interactions, and that through movement, sport and physical activities, you can foster a sense of belonging as you connect with others in your community.
PHYSICAL LITERACY COMES FROM PLAY!
Play is one’s ability to engage in an activity for the sake of enjoyment, curiosity, silliness and exploration. Play involves the body, mind and spirit. Play sparks connections to self and to others. Play allows individuals to take risks and become more resilient. Play fosters confidence. Play is critical to one’s physical literacy journey!
People who are physically literate are happier and have a more positive attitude.
Happier, healthier people means improved mental focus, more productivity at work and higher test scores at school!
Physically literate people have a lower risk of adverse health issues.
People who are physically literate are better in social situations and team building.
